Julian Birkinshaw

Biography:

Julian Birkinshaw is Dean of Ivey Business School at Western University. As a researcher and consultant, he is an internationally recognized thought leader on innovation, digital transformation, and corporate agility who focuses on how technology is enabling the development of new business models and new ways of working. Previously, Birkinshaw was Professor and Vice-Dean at London Business School, where he worked at the interface between academic thinking and real-world practice and was responsible for executive education and learning innovation. He has an MBA and PhD in business administration from Ivey, and a BSc (Hons) from the University of Durham. A Fellow of the British Academy, the Strategic Management Societyand the (American) Academy of Management, Birkinshaw also holds honorary degrees from Copenhagen Business School and the Stockholm School of Economics. He has authored 15 books, including Fast/Forward: Make Your Company Fit for the Future and Becoming a Better Boss, and more than 90 articles including those featured in Harvard Business Review and The Wall Street Journal. As an expert on large-scale change and digital disruption in the private sector, Birkinshaw is regularly quoted in international media, including on CNN, the BBC, and in The Economist and Sloan Management Review.
